Petrarch reconstituted stone clad Technology & Innovation Centre achieves BREEAM Excellence.
We’re doffing our hats to Mother Earth on International Mother Earth Day, by taking a closer look at one of our most prestigious and super ‘green’ Petrarch reconstituted stone facade projects – whose very design has been engineered to improve the future. Boasting an impressive BREEAM Excellence rating, TIC ticks all those important ‘sustainable design’ and enhanced energy boxes.
It’s also fitting given the sad passing of Prince Phillip recently, to pay homage with a little highlight of both he and the Queen celebrating the achievements of the TIC – a centre dedicated to research which addresses the world’s environmental and climate challenges:
In the words of the TIC itself:
Our new Technology & Innovation Centre opens doors to new areas of research, innovation and technology development, all aimed towards creating new possibilities, new levels of dynamic collaborations and productive outcomes. Together, we’ll work on solutions to challenges in enabling technologies and the low carbon economy, including:
- low cost, greener power and energy
- renewable technologies
- photonics and sensors
- advanced engineering
- pharmaceutical manufacturing
- nanoscience
What does the TIC do?
‘Our new centre will accelerate the way in which researchers in academia and industry collaborate and innovate together, within a new specifically designed state-of the art building in the heart of Glasgow.’ Read more here.
The TIC celebrates all things green and sustainable
The Technology & Innovation Centre is the cornerstone of Scotland’s International Technology and Renewable Energy Zone. ITREZ is a global research & development hub, bringing business and academia together to work together on the development of the offshore renewables sector.
BDP’s Technology & Innovation Centre – 5 years of excellence.
Time flies when you’re busy innovating. The Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC) was officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh in July 2015. Fast forward five years and our landmark Centre has transformed the way academics collaborate with business, industry and the public sector. From work in medicine manufacturing to award-winning conference and events and groundbreaking research the Technology and Innovation Centre has truly embraced collaborative working across sectors. See more here.
A quote from our Managing Director, Pete Brough:
‘I have to say we’re particularly proud of this Petrarch project, not only because of the nature of what the Technology and Innovation Centre represents as an icon for positive environmental change and innovation, but also because it has been awarded ‘Excellent’ for its sustainable design standards – thanks to the brilliance of BDP architects and our collaborators. It’s a shining example on all counts and so it’s important to give it a little limelight on International Mother Earth Day!’
Petrarch reconstituted stone Facade – Environmentally Conscious Manufacture
As a premium quality facade solution, we’re pleased to share that our reconstituted stone cladding, Petrarch, is created predominantly from 80% crushed marble and stone – a natural by-product of the mining process. Wherever possible we look to reduce our environmental footprint and encourage environmentally friendly processes as standard.
